PHARR, CPA, CGMA\n \nTUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2017 \n \nHOPE VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB -- DURHAM\n \n11:45 A.M. -- 1:00 P.M.\n \nPRESENTATION TOPIC:  INCOME TAXATION OF TRUSTS\n \nWORKING TOGETHER\n \n(CPAs, Attorneys, Financial Advisors) \n \n \n \nJoan Pharr is a current Tax Partner and a former Managing Partner at Blackman & Sloop, CPAs, P.A.  Joan began her accounting career at Blackman & Sloop and, during her years of service, she has worked in many areas of the accounting practice, but has focused extensively on planning and compliance issues for high net worth individuals, trusts, and estates.  \n \nJoan believes in "paying forward" and has served the community and profession with many volunteer and elected positions throughout her career, including former Chairman of The Board of Directors and current Chairman of The Professional Development Advisory Council of The North Carolina Association of CPAs, former Council Member and current elected Member of The Joint Trial Board of The AICPA, and current Treasurer of Carolina Meadows, Habitat of Humanity of Orange County, and The Durham-Orange Estate Planning Council.  She also serves as a mentor and coach to various associates within Blackman & Sloop.  \n \nJoan describes herself as personable and a good listener --- two traits that have helped her throughout her career.  Her colleagues consider her driven with high expectations. Joan attributes her love of learning, enjoyment of serving others, and overall dedictation to the accounting profession to be her secrets of success.  She jokingly states she went into accounting to have a 9-5 job, clearly what she got was much more. \n \nJoan grew up in Kannapolis, North Carolina.  She resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with her husband and their dog, Quincy.  When she isn't working and volunteering, Joan enjoys golfing, traveling, reading, and spending time with her two grown children, and with family and friends. \n
